✨The Dos✨ Lucky 3: Finding lightness in art, Bharatanatyam and poetry
In which I recommend Mary Oliver as a balm
Hi, hello, greetings, welcome to ✨The Dos✨. If you don’t know how you got here (but you’re enjoying yourself), here, subscribe!
Happy Lucky 3 Friday! It’s been a heavy week in the United States. Some light stuff ahead to ease the mind. Thanks for spending a few minutes with me — I appreciate you.
Lightness in art: One of my favorite antidotes to the news cycle is art. Art when you’re sad. Art when you’re angry. Art when you’re calling your senators. Take a breath and make some art. Case for Making Friends just published their June online creative sessions — and I highly recommend them! My picks: Fluid Florals with Claire Wilson, Summer Bouquets with Julie Cloutier and Pet Portraits with Gina Hendry.
Lightness in dance: During undergrad, I was always in awe of Northwestern Deeva, a women’s dance troupe that blended Indian classical, Bollywood, ballet and hip-hop in their performances. This video made me smile. The hip-hop! The Bharatanatyam! The precision! The joy!
Lightness in poetry: Sometimes you pick up the perfect book at the perfect moment. I picked up this one at Elliott Bay Book Company in Seattle last year after a tough breakup. It’s an anthology of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mary Oliver’s best work from more than five decades — just what the doctor ordered. I love this one.
Hope you have a restful weekend. Thank you for sharing this space with me! 😌
